In collaboration with the Humboldt Area Foundation and a group of community organizations, HSU is working to identify opportunities to address racism and exclusion in the community.  Kicking off this community effort, John Powell, Professor of Law, African American Studies, and Ethnic Studies at the University of California, Berkeley,  has been invited for a keynote address on May 5 in what is planned to be the first in a series of community discussions.  Plans are also underway to engage the Haas Institute for a Fair and Inclusive Society  in an 18-month long effort to provide a community coaching and workshops aimed at advancing community awareness and encouraging anti-racism on-campus and off.
